Artists from coast to coast meet in Ottawa for National Summit on artistic projects inspired by Jean Paul Riopelle’s enduring creative spirit

OTTAWA, March 18, 2024 – The Jean Paul Riopelle Foundation, in collaboration with Culture pour tous and the National Gallery of Canada, invites the media to attend a National
Summit commemorating the success of the Riopelle Dialogues Project.
This event is scheduled for March 22-23, 2024, at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, and will bring together artists and cultural leaders from across Canada who created and presented in 2023 nine monumental works in every region of the country to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jean Paul Riopelle, one of Canada’s most illustrious artists.
Riopelle 100 has been the largest celebration of a Canadian artist in the history of the country and is seen as a model for major artistic commemorations in the future.
WHAT: National Summit to celebrate the Riopelle Dialogues Project, showcasing nine artistic projects inspired by Jean Paul Riopelle, supported by a $1.3 M grant from the Department of Canadian Heritage.

HIGHLIGHTS: Friday, March 22, 2024 at 13:45 p.m. Keynote presentation from Sylvie Lacerte, Guest curator Riopelle: Crossroads in Time at the National Gallery of Canada, Samuel Tétreault, Creator Riopelle Grandeur Nature, an immersive circus production by Montréal’s renowned 7 Fingers, and Blair Thomson, co-creator and composer of Riopelle Symphonique. Presentations from all artists and artist collectives from nine provinces and territories commissioned by the Riopelle Dialogues project to create new works inspired by Jean Paul Riopelle.

ABOUT THE JEAN PAUL RIOPELLE FOUNDATION:
The Jean Paul Riopelle Foundation, established in 2019, aims to celebrate and broaden the appreciation of Riopelle and his oeuvre in the history of Canadian and international art. The foundation supports emerging visual artists, encourages creative exploration, and serves as a center of scholarship on the works of Riopelle.
